Seismic Squirrel has released a new demo of Aether & Iron, originally featured during Steam Next Fest, now available on Steam with expanded support for seven new languages, including European and Latin American Spanish, French, German, Polish, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Simplified Chinese, in addition to English. The update allows an even broader global audience to experience this narrative adventure set in an alternate 1930s New York.
The demo offers players the chance to step into the role of a smuggler trying to survive the city’s dangerous underworld. In this setting, they experience turn based vehicular combat and stories crafted by writers who previously worked on renowned franchises such as Mass Effect, Far Cry, and Sovereign Syndicate. The project blends deep narrative with strategy, resulting in an intense and unpredictable journey.
As they explore the criminal underworld, players have the opportunity to recruit companions, face high risk chases, and engage in tactical battles that demand careful planning. Every decision directly influences the fate of the city and its inhabitants, reinforcing the moral and emotional weight that guides the campaign.
The demo also includes moments where players can uncover secret paths, escape relentless enemies, stash contraband, and deal with kingpins determined to take them down. The possibility of becoming entangled in a rebellion makes the experience even more dynamic, expanding the narrative scope of the available content.
Another key element is the development of talents, allowing the enhancement of skills such as deception, intelligence, and persuasion. These attributes impact both combat and social interactions, keeping the character constantly on the edge between success and failure.
Customization of ether powered vehicles adds further depth to the gameplay, offering upgrades ranging from secret compartments to smoke generators and, of course, flamethrowers. These features enable each player to adapt their strategy to their preferred playstyle, reinforcing their sense of control over the journey.
Finally, the demo stands out for its visual presentation inspired by 1930s detective comics and Art Deco aesthetics, complemented by full voice acting that brings to life characters with stories that are sometimes humorous, sometimes philosophical, and often tragic. Together, these elements create a striking atmosphere that follows players as they explore the mysteries of this reimagined New York.
