Ludorea Games has released a free demo of Monster Girls Survival & Craft 2040, an open-world survival game set in a ruined city in 2040, partially consumed by another world. The experience combines exploration, resource gathering, building and combat with creatures known as monster girls, who can serve as both enemies and allies. The Early Access launch is scheduled for November 16, 2026.
Survival begins among the remains of a city resembling modern-day urban environments, where players must search for food and drinks to stay alive. Vending machines, shelves and other objects can be destroyed to obtain supplies, while the creatures inhabiting the area pose a constant threat. Before acquiring weapons, taking shelter inside buildings and approaching enemies carefully are among the available strategies for progressing through the early stages.
Monster girls also play an important role in progression and can be captured using cards crafted by the player. After weakening a creature in combat, players can seal her inside a card and turn her into an ally, either bringing her along on expeditions and battles or assigning her tasks at the base. This mechanic allows players to develop different strategies, combining exploration and combat with production and base management.
Building revolves around a cubic block system that allows players to dig into the terrain, gather materials and stack blocks to create structures of various sizes. In addition to houses and fortresses, the system includes facilities dedicated to production, farming and defense. The freedom to customize these structures also influences the player's survival experience, whether establishing a peaceful homestead with monster girls tending the crops or building a fortress to withstand the dangers of the surrounding environment.
The day and night cycle affects the behavior of creatures encountered throughout the world, with different monster girls appearing during each period. Encounters become more dangerous at night, and every seven days, a raid targets the player's base. During these events, the sky changes color and the facility's core emits a warning signal before groups of enemies launch their attack. The creatures also target walls and structures, making defensive preparations essential. Surviving the assault can yield valuable items and opportunities to capture new companions, while failing to defend the base results in the destruction of part of the construction.
Equipment also influences progression, with individual pieces featuring unique effects and varying levels of rarity and power. Materials collected during exploration and raids can be used to obtain better gear, while certain items grant additional effects. Visually, the characters feature 2D artwork with frame-by-frame animations rather than Live2D-style deformations. The development process includes multiple character perspectives, such as front, back, side and diagonal views, creating an aesthetic aimed at players who enjoy anime-inspired illustrations.
The free demo has no playtime restrictions and allows unrestricted exploration and building, although it features only 14 types of monster girls, including an elf merchant, alongside a limited selection of items. Save data will carry over to the Early Access version. Each in-game day lasts approximately 20 minutes in real time, and players can skip the night by sleeping in a bed. Early quests also guide progression, allowing players to capture their first monster girl within approximately 20 minutes, while death carries a relatively light penalty under the default settings.
