Australian developer Smash Attack Aus, based in Hobart, has announced the release of Nullstar: Solus in partnership with the publishing platform indie.io. The game, a sci-fi 2D drone platformer, launches on April 16, 2026 for PC via Steam, and will also be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The title is a sci-fi 2D platformer focused on precision, where speed is essential, placing the player in control of a drone descending into forgotten chambers and overgrown corridors, facing ancient dangers and hidden threats in search of the most powerful energy source in existence.

The experience consists of 80 short levels, carefully designed to challenge players to guide the drone through both mechanical and organic hazards, creating constant tension and encouraging that addictive feeling of trying just one more time to achieve perfect execution.

Designed for players of all ages and skill levels, the game features an accessible learning curve while offering enough depth for those who want to master its mechanics. Each stage allows freedom in route selection, while the thruster system rewards skilled players seeking faster completion times, as well as unlocking more difficult challenges in a darker world.

"When we started Nullstar in mid 2024, it was a way for me to claw back some personal goals in game development." Shared Smash Attack Aus team member Dean Baron. "I didn't expect it to become this amazing journey where I was joined by incredible developers from all over the world. Nullstar is a love letter to games from all of us who worked on it and we are excited that it is now ready to be shared with world. Remember pilots. Be. Faster."

With fast-paced gameplay built around risk and reward from start to finish, players are encouraged to act quickly, think precisely, and set records, competing against themselves and others to constantly improve their times. The better the performance, the more decryption points are earned, allowing players to uncover more details about the game’s universe.

Each level is handcrafted by artists working in collaboration with designers to ensure unique experiences, while the dark soundtrack features contributions from Amelia Jones, known for her work on (Hollow Knight), and Mariya Anastasova, associated with (Baldur's Gate 3), reinforcing the immersive atmosphere of the adventure.
