Indie studio Optizonion announced that Hive Blight will launch in Early Access on Steam on March 9. The reveal came alongside a new trailer that showcases the game’s world, strategic combat, available clans and units, as well as the growing threat of a corrupting fungal plague spreading across the kingdom.
In addition to the announcement, a demo version is featured in the Tiny Roguelike event, which began on January 31 and runs until February 14. Optizonion is also taking part in the event with Bounty of One, another title from the studio, expanding opportunities for players to discover its roguelike focused lineup.
The game is a roguelite autobattler in which players lead a group of insect warriors against an expanding fungal corruption brought by the mysterious Fungomancer. The concept revolves around uniting rival clans, building powerful synergies, and pushing back the Blight to prevent the total collapse of the threatened kingdom.
Throughout each run, the progression system offers more than 30 unique units inspired by real life insects, each with its own abilities and attributes. This variety ensures deep tactical gameplay, requiring careful drafting and constant adaptation to face increasingly dangerous encounters, including challenging boss battles.
Exploration of a lush yet perilous world provides multiple ways to grow stronger, such as acquiring over 40 pieces of equipment and trinkets, uncovering ancient powers at sacred altars, visiting the forge, or taking calculated risks with mysterious potions.
Each journey begins by forming an alliance between two distinct clans, which defines the available units, equipment, synergies, and overall strategy. The Vespadas focus on raw offense and debilitating effects, the Silent Cabbale specialize in poison and ambush tactics, while the Sweet Symphoney rely on healing and seductive control, allowing for combinations that can lead to unexpected results.
