The Belgian indie studio Badass Mongoose is shifting into a higher gear for the launch of Helix Descent N Ascent, an atmospheric puzzle adventure that will take part in the February edition of Steam Next Fest, running from February 23 to March 2. A playable demo is scheduled to arrive in the second week of February, giving players an early look at the project’s artistic and narrative vision.

The game features a monochrome visual style inspired by 1980s black and white indie comics, 1990s manga, and 1970s Franco Belgian comics. Its world explores the contrast between light and darkness, creating an environment rich in symbolism and contemplative atmosphere.

The experience is further enhanced by an original soundtrack composed by Jim Guthrie, known for his work on Sword and Sorcery, Nobody Saves The World, and Below. The music blends seamlessly with the visual narrative, guiding players through an intense and memorable artistic journey that favors mood and emotion over direct exposition.

In the story, the player awakens in a forgotten, dark, and seemingly empty world. As the exploration unfolds, an identical figure appears, a mysterious double who constantly seems to act in opposition. This relationship raises questions about identity, inner conflict, and the nature of bonds formed even in solitude.

Progression is driven by the discovery of abilities embodied by the protagonist, each one enabling new ways to interact with the environment. These powers can be freely combined, expanding puzzle solving possibilities and encouraging experimentation as the secrets of a lost civilization are revealed.
