Developed by independent studio MetaProx Studio, Behind the Corner launched on Steam for PC on October 24, 2026, offering a first-person psychological horror experience that combines atmospheric exploration, survival mechanics, and unpredictable encounters. The game places players in unsettling environments where sounds, shadows, and unexpected movements contribute to a constant sense of danger, demanding attention and careful decisions to stay alive.
The initial concept emerged from a simple image depicting a mysterious entity peeking around a corner, which eventually evolved into an independent project focused on uncertainty and replayability. Rather than relying exclusively on jump scares, the experience incorporates interconnected systems that bring together exploration, resource management, and strategic planning. During expeditions, players can use a camera to discover hidden artifacts throughout the environments, earning in-game currency that can be invested in equipment, upgrades, and special abilities.
Resource management also directly affects the consequences of survival, particularly through a hospital and insurance system. When a character dies, medical expenses can reduce accumulated funds, while purchasing insurance helps minimize the associated costs. This mechanic introduces additional strategic decisions, forcing players to balance investments in better equipment, financial protection, and the risks involved in pursuing more valuable discoveries.
The main threat comes from the Stalker, an entity designed to pursue players and create unpredictable encounters. According to the developer, programming and refining the creature's artificial intelligence was among the most technically demanding challenges during production. The experience also features randomized horror events, ensuring that each expedition presents different situations and encouraging players to adapt their strategies rather than rely on memorized encounters.
Primarily developed by an independent creator at MetaProx Studio, with additional contributions from friends and collaborators, the project has several expansion plans. These include new maps, additional mechanics, seasonal events, rotating game modes, bug fixes, and improvements guided by player feedback.
"My goal is to create more than just another horror game. I want to build an experience where players explore, experiment, develop their own strategies, and discover something new with every playthrough," says the developer at MetaProx Studio. By combining psychological tension, resource management, and dynamic encounters, the project aims to establish its own identity within the independent horror genre while keeping the evolution of the experience at the center of the studio's plans.
