Boosteroid, a cloud gaming service that allows users to play video games on demand via browser or app across different devices without the need for high-end hardware, made its mark at gamescom 2025. During the event in Cologne, the team shared its latest achievements, and in a conversation with Watermelo, Maksym Terekhin, Director of Communications, reflected on the company’s journey as an independent corporation, its challenges, and the value of participating in the gathering.
Asked about the biggest obstacles the company faced while growing without the direct support of large corporations, Terekhin explained: "The lifeblood of any cloud gaming service is infrastructure and partnerships. To succeed, Boosteroid needed to scale rapidly, meeting global demand both in quantity and quality, while continuously expanding its game library and enabling support for new platforms – all of which often required cooperation with external partners." He added that the lack of early brand recognition and backing from major industry players demanded resilience, but that perseverance was rewarded with important international awards for the company’s leadership.
"That perseverance and vision were recently recognized – CEO Ivan Shvaichenko received a Grand Stevie Award for Highest-rated Nomination of the Year and a Gold Stevie for Best Entrepreneur in Computer Services, while VP Artem Skoryi also won a Stevie Award – signaling how strongly their leadership resonates beyond the company."
Regarding the advancements that ensured competitiveness against the biggest names in the sector, he highlighted the strategic vision of founder Ivan Shvaichenko. "Very early in its development, Boosteroid CEO and founder Ivan Shvaichenko made the strategic decision that the company needed its own infrastructure. Since then, Boosteroid has been building a dedicated server network that today spans three continents – Europe, North America and South America." He also noted that the adoption of AMD-based server solutions in 2024 enabled support for demanding games at up to 4K and 120 FPS while keeping pricing accessible.
Independence was also pointed out as a competitive advantage. "Independence gives Boosteroid the agility to focus precisely on what matters most for its users and to deliver improvements in time with their expectations," said Terekhin. According to him, direct control over both hardware and software ensures optimized performance and helps avoid the limitations common in large corporate structures.
This autonomy also opens space for collaborations beyond the traditional gaming universe. "Independence also opens opportunities for cross-industry collaborations. From Smart TVs to Mercedes-Benz vehicles, Boosteroid’s flexibility makes it possible to bring cloud gaming into places that are unconventional yet highly impactful," he emphasized. This approach expands the presence of technology in unexpected and innovative contexts.
When commenting on the importance of gamescom, Terekhin underlined the weight of face-to-face meetings for independent companies. "Gamescom is the place where people can meet in person. Even in an interconnected world where anyone can be reached through a zoom call, the value of face-to-face conversations is still high," he said. For him, a few meetings in Cologne can achieve results that would otherwise take months of remote negotiations.
