Crunch Moonkiss Studios revealed that Groove Defense was one of the games selected for the Steam Tower Defense Fest, which takes place from March 9 to 16. Developed by solo creator Jared, the project presents a creative approach to the tower defense genre by turning each match into a dynamic musical composition.

The current demo available on Steam features four levels, each built around a distinct musical genre: Synthwave, Slasher Flick, 2010s Pop, and 80s. Each style introduces unique towers, enemies, and sonic identities, ensuring both strategic and aesthetic variety.

At the core of the experience, placing a tower does more than protect the base, it creates music. Every instrument added introduces a new sound layer that evolves in real time, turning strategy into musical composition. When players position a drum tower, they hear the beat drop, while bass towers fill out the low end and synth towers build soaring melodies.

Enemies move to the rhythm of the soundtrack, making timing essential for success. Towers also fire on beat, creating strategic and musical feedback loops that organically connect sound and gameplay. Every session generates a unique track based on the player’s choices throughout the match.

Three main modes structure the experience. Tour Mode offers a structured campaign, Free Play allows open experimentation, and Rhythm Remix, described as a VSMR mode, removes traditional defense elements so players can freely interact with the unlocked musical tools.

In addition, the demo includes a bonus mode called "Rhythm Remix" that lets players interact directly with the soundtrack outside the classic tower defense structure, further expanding the creative focus of the project. With four distinct genres and systems that blend strategy and sound, the game transforms each match into an interactive performance.

By combining accessible mechanics, a strong musical identity, and high replay value, Groove Defense delivers an experience in which every strategic decision resonates musically, making each playthrough unique both tactically and sonically.
