Steelkrill Studio has officially announced The 18th Attic, a psychological horror game inspired by Fatal Frame, scheduled for release on February 2, 2026, on Steam, GOG, and Epic Games. The experience places players inside a haunted attic, where exploration unfolds with the help of a Polaroid camera and the constant companionship of a loyal cat.
The gameplay is centered on photographing ghosts and anomalies, as supernatural entities can only be revealed when captured through the camera’s lens. As the environment shifts and takes on new forms, paranormal encounters directly affect the player’s sanity, creating a persistent sense of tension and instability.
To escape the loop that traps players within the location, it is necessary to identify anomalies scattered throughout the environment while managing the psychological impact of supernatural manifestations. Sanity recovery comes through moments of comfort by interacting with the cat, which also serves as an early warning system for imminent danger.
With an analog psychological horror approach and an oppressive atmosphere, The 18th Attic focuses on mood, suspense, and distinctive mechanics to deliver an unsettling narrative, exploring fear through careful observation and the balance between vulnerability and protection.
