Croatian developer Ajvar Studio has unveiled its latest project during the Games from Croatia Steam festival. Titled Sunset Survival: Miami, the game is coming to PC and combines PvE shooting, survival mechanics, and extraction gameplay in a post-apocalyptic version of the famous Florida city, now overrun by mutants and shaped by widespread destruction.

The experience places players in dangerous expeditions across hostile streets in search of vital resources. Each run requires fighting through enemy hordes, collecting valuable gear, and making it back alive to a home base where permanent upgrades, new skills, and stronger survival options can be unlocked for future missions.

Drawing inspiration from pop culture icons associated with Miami, the project aims to stand apart from the darker tone commonly seen in zombie themed games. "We wanted to blend our love of Scarface, Vice City and Miami Vice with classic zombie horror, and that is how we got the idea for Sunset Survival: Miami," said Zoran Domuzin, founder of Ajvar Studio. "The main idea was to take a beautiful sun-drenched summer paradise and make it a playground for the undead. We wanted to step back from dark and gritty tropes of the genre and just have fun with it. So, we made our main protagonist a walking Florida Man headline and decided to explore the apocalypse through his perspective. We are so thrilled to finally share our vision with the players. Welcome to Miami. Enjoy the sun, the palms, and the flesh-eating mutants."

The setting explores a city that has been completely transformed by catastrophe. Luxury hotels have become infected nests, beaches have turned into dangerous mutant territories, and different districts showcase varying levels of devastation. While traces of the former Miami still remain, the environment has been redesigned to provide constant threats and encourage exploration.

The expedition system is built around unpredictability and adaptation. Narrow alleyways, abandoned ambulances, and forgotten buildings may conceal anything from rare weapons to unexpected supplies. A combination of randomized loot, diverse enemies, and changing weather conditions ensures that no two runs unfold in exactly the same way.

Beyond the city streets, players are encouraged to venture inside bars, apartments, hotels, and neon lit nightclubs. The deeper they push into these locations, the greater the danger becomes, but the rewards increase accordingly, offering access to better equipment and valuable intelligence about the challenges that lie ahead.

The dynamic day and night cycle plays a major role in shaping the gameplay experience. While Miami is already dangerous during daylight hours, conditions become significantly more threatening after sunset. Darkness limits visibility, forces careful management of flashlight batteries, and unleashes even deadlier creatures, creating a constant choice between chasing rare rewards and prioritizing survival.

Successful extraction serves as one of the game's defining mechanics. Players must find a way out of the danger zone, whether by returning to a boat, defending a helicopter landing area, or relying on more unconventional escape methods. Dying before extraction means losing every item collected during the mission.

Between expeditions, a secluded island acts as the player's main sanctuary. Resources recovered from the city can be invested in constructing new facilities, repairing existing structures, and attracting additional survivors. As the base grows, new abilities, permanent stat upgrades, and expanded progression options become available.

The game also features a large arsenal of firearms and melee weapons, crafting systems, character progression, quests with rewards, and multiple distinct regions to explore. Combined with dynamic weather conditions and a wide variety of mutant enemies, the experience aims to deliver a survival adventure where every trip into the city can lead to fortune, disaster, or something in between.
