Obsidian Moon arrives for the public with the launch of its first playable demo during Steam Detective Fest, inviting players to step into the shadows and take on their first investigation in a noir detective simulator developed by Lost Cabinet Games.
Set in smoke filled alleys of a city consumed by secrets, the game delivers a text based narrative experience inspired by 1930s noir and a strong sense of psychological tension. Players step into the role of Carter, a former homicide detective marked by grief and failure, who must solve a series of interconnected murders using logic and intuition while confronting the gradual unraveling of his own sanity. "The call came in last night about a corpse found at the Obsidian docks. By the time I rolled in, head still spinning from the bottle of Jack the previous night, our boys in blue had already cordoned off the scene and rounded up three suspects..."
In the demo, the experience centers on the first murder case, where players navigate a dense web of leads, choices, and consequences. Questioning witnesses, digging through records, relying on forensic analysis, or taking more questionable shortcuts are all viable approaches, and each decision directly shapes how the case unfolds, with more than thirty different investigative paths available.
According to game director Yannis Antonakakis, the event was the ideal setting for this debut. "Steam Detective Fest felt like the perfect moment to let players get their hands dirty," the developer said when commenting on the decision to release the demo to the public.
He also emphasized that the proposal goes far beyond a simple technical showcase. "The demo isn't a vertical slice, it's a real case, built to show how much freedom the game gives you. We want players to experiment, make mistakes, and feel what it's like to live inside an investigation, even if it costs them."
Among the demo highlights are an introductory tutorial case alongside the first complete original case, multiple investigative solutions shaped by player choices, an estimated playtime of twenty to forty five minutes, nearly the full set of gameplay mechanics including the atmospheric Noir Mode, and a first glimpse into the dark past and unsettling atmosphere surrounding the world of Obsidian Moon.
