Independent studio Patriots Division has announced the release of a free demo for Overtime! NIGHTMARE on Steam, accompanied by a new trailer showcasing more details about its deckbuilding mechanics. The gameplay combines strategic card, spell, and enchantment construction with spatial movement, where every step across the board matters.
The campaign puts players in the role of Annie, an office worker who must save her colleagues from a terrible curse before time runs out. Each card played moves the protagonist across the board and places a unit on the tile she has just left. Combining units, gold slots, and multipliers allows players to build chains that increase their rewards, while each room presents a credit target that must be reached before the deadline expires.
Strategic planning revolves around combining different cards, effects, and enchantments to create decks tailored to each player's preferred playstyle. The board also features hazards, rewards, and secrets that require careful decisions with every move. Additionally, spells introduce further possibilities for combinations, while items, skins, and mementos collected during runs expand the options available in future attempts.
Story mode features nine individually crafted bosses, each with a tragic narrative that must be resolved throughout the journey. These encounters are part of the broader objective of escaping the nightmare, as players face adversaries whose stories are tied to their own sins and the curse threatening the characters.
"We wanted every card to be a move as well as an effect," said Roy Blackstone, Creative Director at Patriots Division. "You're building a deck and planning a route across the grid at the same time, with the deadline always closing in. The demo is the first chance for players to try it, and we want to hear what they think."
